I used to wait until the last possible minute to get dressed, as if the right outfit might reveal itself under pressure. Mostly I just ended up wearing the first clean thing I found.
Now I get dressed before I make coffee. It sounds like a small change, but it gives me a little space to notice what I actually want to wear.
Some days that is a dress and boots. Other days it is the softest trousers I own and a jumper that has seen better years. Both count.
I am not trying to become a person with a signature look. I am trying to stop treating comfort and looking like myself as competing ideas.
