The jumper is not special. It is a little faded at the cuffs, the shape is not particularly fashionable, and it has a tiny mark near the pocket that I have decided is part of the design.
It is special because it works on the days when I do not want to make a decision. I can wear it with jeans, a skirt, or the same black trousers I have been pretending are different.
Clothes earn their place in my wardrobe by making life easier. This one has done that quietly for years.
I used to think a good wardrobe was about having fewer pieces. Now I think it is about knowing which pieces are on your side.
