I went out without checking the weather app, choosing a route, or telling myself how far I should go. I walked until the street stopped looking familiar, then turned left because a tree was making a nice shadow.
There was no step count to celebrate at the end. There was just a warm face, a loaf of bread under my arm, and the sense that my thoughts had been gently rearranged.
I have nothing against goals. They are useful when I need a nudge. But not every walk needs to become evidence that I am doing life correctly.
Sometimes movement is simply a way to be somewhere else for a while. That was enough for me.
